If selling your home has been on your mind, you may be wondering when you should actually start preparing.
The answer is simple: sooner than you think.
You do not have to be ready to put a sign on the lawn tomorrow. In fact, giving yourself some extra time can make the entire selling process feel much less stressful. Preparing your home gradually allows you to take care of the little things without feeling rushed and gives you time to make thoughtful decisions about how you want to present your home to potential buyers.
Even if you are thinking about selling several months from now, now is a great time to start thinking about what you can do to get ready.
Start With a Plan

Not every renovation will give you a return on your investment, and you do not want to spend money on improvements simply because you think you have to. You do not need to make your home look like a showroom. The goal is to create a home that feels comfortable, cared for, and easy to live in.
Give Your Home a Good Cleaning

Your home has different seasons, and sometimes the best time to capture certain features is not necessarily the same time you are ready to sell.
Gather Your Important Information
Another useful step is to start gathering information about your property.
Keep copies of renovation receipts, warranties, manuals, property information, utility costs, and other documents that may be helpful when preparing to sell.
If you have completed updates to your roof, windows, furnace, air conditioning, kitchen, bathrooms, or other major components of the home, having that information organized can be very helpful later.
It is much easier to gather these details while you have time than to try to track everything down when you are already preparing for a move.
Think About Your Timeline

You do not have to know the exact date today.
